Summary
The Communications Specialist is the steward of the Sierra Wireless brand voice and plays a key role in building and raising awareness of the Company. Your passion for storytelling, outgoing personality, ‘get things done’ attitude and ability to stay on top of details keeps stakeholders informed and ensures industry-leading programs are delivered on deadline and error-free.
You will report to the Senior Manager, Global PR, and balance many social media, PR and content deadlines simultaneously, whether it’s editing or posting blog content, managing social media strategy, writing or proofing copy, tracking media clips, briefing spokespeople for media interviews or conducting competitive messaging audits. You are enthusiastic, proactive, have an eye for detail and quality, and you are an excellent writer.
Responsibilities
  • Manage social media strategy, including collaborative content calendar, posting and monitoring for company social media presence (e.g. LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube), as well as KPI reporting, competitor/industry monitoring and generating sales leads
  • Work with subject matter experts and PR agency to create compelling content, story angles, award submissions and speaking opportunities that position Sierra Wireless as a leader
  • Manage and update blog content, media coverage and news releases on the Sierra Wireless website
  • Coordinate media opportunities, brief spokespeople and contribute to key messages
  • Monitor and circulate media coverage of Sierra Wireless, ecosystem partners and competitors
  • Contribute to PR, social and content marketing planning cycles
  • Draft, edit and review copy for blog posts, news releases, contributed articles and other thought leadership content
  • Participate in planning calls with PR agency, deliver on assigned action items
  • Manage purchase order requests and manage invoices from vendors & suppliers
  • Maintain PR process documentation, style guide and social media policy; contribute to new processes as needed
Required Education, Experience & Competencies
  • 3-5 years of communications experience in a corporate setting
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and measure social media programs
  • Demonstrated ability to manage media opportunities and work with spokespeople to deliver strong messages that result in coverage
  • Proven track record of ensuring consistent messaging and tone across multiple campaign elements
  • Passion for writing, storytelling and identifying news angles
  • Strong project management skills, including demonstrated ability to prioritize deadlines, take initiative, multi-task and manage time without direction
  • Excellent communication, proofing, editing and English writing skills
  • A ‘get things done’ attitude, with strong problem-solving and team collaboration skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or equivalent
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe CS4
  • Experience with social and media monitoring tools (Hootsuite, Trendkite, RivalIQ, etc.)
  • Experience with content management systems for website postings an asset
  • Technology industry and/or B2B experience an asset
